One Ear Flap
Eventually, on Monday night, the Alpaca Chullo hat became available. I decided to wait until Tuesday morning to order. Then it wasn’t available! Then by Tuesday afternoon the hat was available. But my purse I wanted to order wasn’t. I finally gave in and ordered the hat kit, and enough yarn to make about 18 bajillion Star Wars hats. Paid for 3-day shipping, 2 days later my hat kit arrived. Fortunately I didn’t have to work this weekend and I was able to start the hat. I have two ear flaps done and the first two small strips done.
I went ahead and bought fleece to possibly line the hat because after all, my niece, the recipient, is in Alaska and Palette, although wool, is fairly thin and I want the hat to be very warm. My only concern though is the hat pattern is only one size, and since I typically knit tight, I decided to make it on the needle size 3 (what the pattern calls for) and hope that it’ll be small enough but not too small. Its a risk, but I the worst that will happen is it’ll be too small and I’ll have to reknit it.
There was one other disappointment in the kit. Yesterday I discovered that they sent one wrong color and didn’t send the right color. So I’ve had to adjust a couple of the fair isle patterns to accommodate that I have only one color of blue instead of two. But since time is of the essence, I’m not going to complaint to Knit Picks. I’ve had to complain to them before about problems with what they’ve shipped and they always have excellent customer service, at least I’ve never had a problem, but I need to get this hat done, so I can finish the sleeve to Gatherin Intentions for my trip to San Francisco in 5 weeks, and start the 3 matching family Star Wars hats.
Plus I’m working at least 10 hours of overtime a week, if not more.
Excuse me while I put the computer down and start working on the hat…..have a lovely evening!
On Thursday, one of the only nights I came home on time this week, I arrived to find my new Knit Picks catalog. I admit it, I’m a fan of knit picks. I can afford their yarn much better then say Rowan, although I will admit I’m not a fan of using their yarn for felting. I find it fuzzes quite dramatically. In the new Knit Picks catalog was something I just have to have. The Andean Chullo Hat Kit. Each year I intend to make my niece, in Alaska, a hat. And when I saw that hat, so brightly colored and with earflaps I knew it had to be the one I make for her this year. So Friday I intended to order it, and even pay for fast shipping because lets face it, its October and its already cold in Alaska. ITS NOT AVAILABLE YET! Why put something in your catalog when it is even available yet to purchase! I was infuriated, okay I was annoyed, and fortunately I see they at least have it listed now when it will be available, which will be Monday.
While I was there, I browsed other kits and think I want to knit the laptop bag and the cool purse in Palette. But I’d better get busy on the second sleeve to my Gathering Intentions sweater so I can justify starting all these new projects.

Basil Stole My Heart
I realized I hadn’t shown sweet Basil on this blog yet. Poor Basil, he’s the old pet that isn’t fresh in our minds, plus he doesn’t do many new things any more to take pictures of.
This was taken 9 years ago, he was really still a baby bird. Only a few months old, when he’d still let me do things like put hats on him. If I tried to put a hat on him now he’d probably try to bite my finger off!
Well I’d better get back to making the rest of these face cloths so I can get back to my sleeve, so I can be ready to start knitting on the hat when it comes.
The one thing about working in a law office is figuring out everyone’s sense of humor. Who will laugh at what jokes, who will think your crazy, etc. Fortunately my office is full of Monty Python which makes the nights your stuck there past midnight much more entertaining. This last week, I worked 40 hours of overtime! Yes, that is an 80 hour work week, and I was exhausted, but start cracking monty python lines about 11:00 p.m., and at least your laughing instead of crying.
Because of these insane hours there has been little to no knitting. I have taken a brief hiatus from my last sleeve of Gatherin Intentions and the felted Diamond Mitered purse to quickly knit up some face cloths and soap sacks. Boss’ Day is next week, and I wanted to do something special for my attorneys. The men folk I just bought them something, but I wanted to do something by hand for the one female attorney I work for, as she appreciates and craves the simpler things in life. So I made up two face cloths and little soap sacks. Then I purchased soap from Robin who makes the most lovliest hand-made soaps, and some lotion (which I discovered is even lovlier then her soap!), along with some other relaxation bath salts, and packaged them up in a lovely basket. I must say it was the cutest gifts I’ve put together in a long time. But I didn’t take a picture. However she absolutely love it! Since my boss were in town yesterday I went ahead and gifted the presents as I never know when they will all be around at the same time.
Now I’m knitting 3 more little face cloths and soap sack sets as thank you gifts to the 3 women who helped me survive and get all the work that had to be done in the super-intense 80 hour work week last week.

- Waiting
But guess what! My husband is now employed. He started his new job this Monday, so this is what Abner and Django have been doing every morning. They are not used to Nick leaving, for the past 2 1/2 years he’s been home after his broken leg and illness. Last October we rescued Django to keep Abner company when Nick returned to the work-force, but its taken a full-year to have that happen.
They’ll eventually get used to it though. And fortunately, we won’t have to move into that box after all.
Now back to knitting……oh and when I find a little extra time, I’ll continue my tour of St. Louis with the glove.
